Hickory Dickory Dock: Managing Your SEO Clock – Clock #5, Social Media and Blogging

Surprise! There’s a Fifth SEO Clock

All of what we have discussed prior is what is called On-Page SEO. It involves everything you can do on your website SEO-wise to boost your rank.

However, another ranking factor is how popular you are on social media. That’s right. How many likes, followers, retweets and shares boost your rank as well.

Not only that, but you have to be current as well as relevant. Google and other search engines reward consistency. Whether Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, or what have you, you need to be using it on a consistent basis. While some choose every day, others might find a better groove doing less, like twice a week. Whatever the case, do it, have a plan, execute it…consistently!

Not sure about your social media strategy? No worries. We can help!

Blogging

Blogging can both be on-page and off-page depending on how you choose to do things, but the same rules apply as to social media: do it and be consistent.

But I Have Nothing Interesting to Blog About!

Of course you do! You have a wonderful product, a terrific cause, a fantastic service, a powerful message, a great event, an unheard of sale, an admirable volunteer, and I’m sure you’re getting the picture.

But I’m Not a Good Writer!

Most bloggers aren’t great writers. They just have a base article that is made better by a spell checker and a thesaurus. But, if you’re really hung up on not being a great writer, these days you can usually find someone in your company or a volunteer with your cause that blogs on a regular basis. Try them out, see if they’re great. Maybe putting your heads together will generate a masterpiece that brings you traffic!

Combining the Two

The good news is that these two ventures of becoming active in social media and blogging support each other very well.

You can write a blog, and then post a link to it on your social media sites. You can write a blog and tell your readers to follow you on social media for exclusive announcements on sales or information for your upcoming fundraiser. You can create a chain that has your site visitor reach each social media platform starting from your blog. The possibilities are endless!

All the while, Google sits back and says, “Wow, people consider them very trustworthy.” Your rank increases. You smile.

So do we!
