Our Blog Scandal: Google EAT Requires Transparency

This blog is our commitment to Google EAT and the necessity it is in our world of bringing first class SEO to our customers. Because of the way Google EAT is structured, we have no choice but to come clean and tell you what we did, why we did it, why we’re changing it, and what you can expect in the future.

What We Did: Simon is a Double Agent

He’s not a double agent in the sense that he has a license to kill and is playing both sides of the good and bad in a Bond movie. He’s, well, our brother from another mother…technically. It’s more like he’s our octopod from another octomom, but, I checked with Garrett just to make sure and his mom doesn’t have eight legs. Mine didn’t either so, we go with the standard term of endearment.

Simon is the representation of all that Webbin’ It believes in. You can’t have a web presence with just your website. You must have a solid SEO plan and amazing social media engagement. So, you really aren’t everywhere unless you’re Webbin’ It. Simon represents building that web.

We don’t like to call Simon our mascot. Actually, he made us quit. Just like Garrett and I jumped in with both feet, he jumped in with all eight of his. He’s committed! With Tara joining us, that’s 14 feet total, all in.

If you haven’t figured this out by now: Garrett and I are true voices behind the phenomenon Simon is to everyone. We don’t say this because we are proverbially tooting our own horns, but because, Google made us do it.

Why We Did It: This Spider is Adorable

This is going to be a short section. There’s a pretty obvious reason Simon is the face of Webbin’ It. He’s freaking adorable.

Whether Garrett and I are adorable is both debatable and objective. I can only think of four people that find us handsome and I can only speak for my wife and my mom.

Since Simon is adorable and could give our target audience the physical representation of spinning a web where each stitch was integral to the rest of the structure, we decided to let Simon be our mouthpiece. We told him what to say. He echoed our knowledge and spoke to the masses.

Why We’re Changing It: Because Google Said So

Recently, Google went through a significant algorithm change. The principle that is paramount for stellar SEO in this update is the concept of Google EAT, which we describe in a post about blogging.

Google changes its algorithm from time to time and you have to roll with those punches. A lot of times you might even find yourself making adjustments only to turn around again not long after finishing your list to simply make more adjustments.

Whether you like it or not, you will find that rolling with those punches is a (sometimes) painful necessity, but still a necessity. If you don’t believe me, let your rank fall after one of those updates and then take stock of your scrambling to get it back. Remember the like it or not part? You wouldn’t put yourself through that scrambling if you really didn’t care to fix it.

I have heard before that Google’s secretive algorithm changing “isn’t fair.” Here’s the thing, when you’re the entity calling the shots, fairness is not always something they consider. I’m not calling Google unfair, I’m just saying that when you’re known for setting standards that people follow, it’s not really a question of whether people can adjust with the standards, it’s more about when you’re going to go ahead and change that standard and be the game-changer. It’s not really about fairness, actually. It’s about staying up-to-date, and, frankly, these algorithm changes force you, to a degree, to make sure your content is fresh, new, unique and exciting, and that’s not a bad thing.

What You Can Expect: All of Us, Google EAT, Same Great Content

The long and short of it is that we are going to be the example by changing. Simon isn’t going anywhere. He will be the face of Webbin’ It, but his role as the expert mouthpiece will change to customer spokesperson. Ask those questions, people. Simon will get them to us!

You’ll see us calling on our expertise and authority so that you can trust it, and so can Google.

The only thing that won’t change is the great content you have become accustomed to seeing here at Simon Says…

…and the name will stay, too.

Most importantly, stay tuned! We have some great topics coming for you to improve your web presence.

Hello this is kinda of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually
code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding know-how so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! Already built templates will typically include a form of WYSIWYG allowing you to customize it to meet your needs. Some of these templates are more user friendly than others and some are free where others are not. Just take your time and do your research to find a template that best fits your needs. Hopefully, that answers your question. If not, feel free to reach out to us to see if we can further assist you. Good luck on your blogging venture. When you get it up and running drop us a line and we will check it out!
