Running with the Big Dogs

There is a huge misconception that startups don’t have what it takes to run with the big dogs. In some instances, this may be the case but, when it comes to your online presence, nothing could be further from the truth. Unfortunately, the reasons why companies aren’t competing well is more often than not self-induced.

Let’s Build a Model

Modeling is not a new concept as it has been a part of just about every aspect of a business since time began. Now, I am not necessarily talking about a business model as much as modeling one’s business after another. Some of us might have put together model cars, airplanes, or possibly even houses. These models mimic a larger scaled version of itself while representing some identical features.

Too often we here at Webbin’ It here prospective clients say, “I have a website and that is good enough” or “Facebook is good enough for what I am doing”. To be blunt, I feel that these statements are shortsighted and lack ambition.  I heard someone say once that good is the enemy of great so to say something is good enough really means that there is room for improvement.

“Lesson for whole life. Whole life have a balance. Everything be better.”

Mr. Miyagi

So, what then is great? If your business is doing well-making conversions through Facebook, or your website, imagine your success when you have a fully balanced web presence. There is a reason that the bigger organizations utilize a website, social media, and every other aspect of a web presence. They realize that to reach everyone in their tribe they quite literally must be everywhere. Modeling your online presence after these bigger organizations help to level the playing field.

The Balanced Approach

We have talked this before, but I feel it is worth discussing again. In terms of search engine optimization (SEO), balance is achieved when your entire presence works together to improve your search rankings. Social media content should be doing one of two things, producing conversion or driving traffic to your website. Your website content should be so captivating that visitors want to take off their shoes and stay for a while. The content, design, and flow of your site will also ultimately lead to conversions. With each of these, Google will recognize your awesomeness and decide to tell all who seek your services that you are the bomb-diggity which… you guessed it… leads to conversions.

“Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance.”

Mufasa

Obviously, the above is a very high-level portrayal of how it will all play out, but I think you definitely get the idea. Couple your online presence with that of your physical and you can see how your outreach could include all the same customer base as those twice your size.

DIY and ROI

OK. So here is the rub. Some of you may have the know how to do all of this web stuff on your own. Another thing we have said before, you need to weigh time versus quality versus urgency. An online presence is not a set it and forget it type of deal. Just like your business, it is constantly evolving with not only the demands of customers but the demands of technology as well. Trying to do it all will inevitably cause one aspect to suffer.

“There is no decision that we can make that doesn’t come with some sort of balance or sacrifice.”

Simon Sinek

I guess here would be a good place to remind you of the words that will kill your website. “I can just…” Yes, back to modeling and balance. Those big dogs understand that one cannot do it all and thus they hire such tasks out.  But what does that look like? Lucky for you we wrote about that as well.

The average salary of a Senior SEO specialist is over $80,000, a Senior Web Developer over $90,000, and Social Media Manager just under $70,000 as reported by glassdoor.com.  I will let you do the math on the monthly for all of that, but I can guarantee you that you won’t like the numbers. So, the ROI for doing it yourself doesn’t look great. Hiring in-house can give you the ROI but at the rate of somewhere between “holy monkeys” and “you’re out of your freaking mind”. I have more good news for you.

When you hire Webbin’ It for your online presence needs, you will get all three of those for a fraction of what you would pay to hire in house. Why is that? Because we are awesome that way. I know. I speak with a whole lot of confidence. Contact us today for your free consultation and see why you’re not everywhere unless you’re Webbin’ It.
