This Little Piggy Went to Your Website: TheyBuiltItForMe.com

This post is going to seem hypocritical but I promise you it isn’t. As I keep telling you, Webbin’ It is different and in this post I’ll be sure to tell you how.

One of the do-it-yourself options is to go to a web service that will build your website for you. Some only have three letter website names that rhyme with picks or Jeb. But, for our purpose, we’ll call them TheyBuiltItForMe.com.

Unique-ishness

The interesting thing about going to a do-it-yourself web service is that they offer templates. Ah, the comforting ability to drag and drop your content in and make it unique from everything else on the web.

Kind of…

The reality is that in most of these do-it-yourself situations, you might have a variety of templates to choose from but some are so specifically themed they aren’t usable for your small business or non-profit. In addition, some of them have such little polish there are only a select few you end up wanting to use for your site. These are usually among the most commonly picked among users. With all the users picking the select few, is your site that unique?

Furthermore, few of them will effectively carry over your branding. It is rare to find a template that fits your branding exactly. Branding is important for both businesses and non-profit organizations. If a customer or volunteer sees you in public but can’t tell who you are by your website they could bounce to their next Google search.

Free Advertising for TheyBuiltItForMe.com

The thing that drives Webbin’ It the most crazy about sites like TheyBuiltItForMe.com is the amount of advertising that their service puts all over your website.

Part of the goal in building a website is not creating exits from your page to something else. But on your site, there are sidebars and header bars and footerbars telling your users that they, too, can build a site with TheyBuiltItForMe.com.

Another big goal in web design is to make sure your website carries concise and clear information about you. Now, TheyBuiltItForMe.com has cluttered up your design with their ads.

That is, unless you pay them extra.

So those ads bother you, eh? For a little extra per month you can remove that.

Your website is your microphone. Your website is your voice.

Do you really want those ads interrupting your message? And, if that weren’t bad enough, do you want to pay up to make them be quiet?

Why Webbin’ It Is Different

We figure if we do things the way you want and make your web presence as great as you want, you’ll do our advertising for us. We don’t need to clutter your website up with links to get your customers to us. We just need to make sure your excited about what we’ve put together for you.
