There’s a concept few understand and fewer overcome:
Your sense of urgency to get something done can sometimes encroach on the ability to put the time in to do something to its highest quality level.
I can simplify that, actually:
Time. Quality. Urgency. Pick two.
When managing any website, the time put in usually determines the quality in the output. If you’re running a small business you know exactly what I mean. The time you put into your business determines profits. You’re constantly making things move and developing processes to make your workflows for you and those you’re employing go smoothly. Every now and then, when you can breathe and think for a second, you get an idea that turns into a potential gamechanger.
However, when juggling those things sometimes the focus gets put on urgency or time rather than quality.
Don’t get me wrong you can put things on hold and put the time into something to make it quality. There are many that manage many things well because they have to do it. There’s no one else. They’re the Captain Jack of their Black Pearl and they have to steer the ship. They find themselves from time to time having to play catch-up but they still crank out good work.
That, my friends, is the difference. Why settle for good? Why not right the ship and head towards great?
Bloggers also know what I’m talking about. You have followers and a good base of people who want to know what is coming. But there’s life and kids and bills and…
… the audience
that is waiting for you and can find a different you in a second with their phone!
So when your website becomes the thing you’re spending the least time with you can find yourself with great ideas but the need for site function that needs to be developed. Your gamechanger is now on hold while you are working on this piece or that. If it crashes at any point, you’re now responsible for that fix and the continued work to get that gamechanger in place.
What was it you signed up for? You could offer the world something through your creativity. You have a service no one else has in place. You have a product no one can manufacture as well as you do. You’ve written something everyone needs to read.
But if all that gets bogged down by your website being on the back burner while your gamechanger was being watered you can have a lot of sprouts but no fruit!
